Mother and son work together to get son’s behaviors back on track through hard work and dedication

July 09, 2014
Charles is a 5th grader in the College Community School District and he, his mom, Misty and big sister, Deleigha live at Cedar Valley Townhomes, which is owned and operated by the Affordable House Network. Cedar Valley is one of four locations offering the Four Oaks Achievement Academy, an after-school and summer day program. Charles has been attending the Achievement Academy since 1st grade. The program has provided him with a structured setting, a safe environment, and somewhere to have fun with friends while his mom finishes her workday.

Misty is a dedicated single mother and full-time nurse. A couple years ago when Charles started to experience concerning behavioral challenges, she was invited to enroll in the TotalChild pilot program. Misty was proactive and did everything that was asked of her. She hung in there with Charles and followed through to ensure his success. Through Charles’ hard work and dedication, he participated in additional Four Oaks programs to help reach his goals and achieve success. His behaviors improved and he is having greater success at school and at home. He is now in the follow-up phase of TotalChild because of his accomplishments and is enjoying his fifth year enrolled in the Cedar Valley Achievement Academy.
